A letter to My EX Long-Distance Relationship

By

Dear Ex Long Distance,

It’s been a while since we exchanged a few words.

This morning, after finishing my daily chores, sending our daughter off to school, packing breakfast, seeing my husband off to work, cleaning the house, stocking up on supplies…I finally found a quiet moment. Now, I’m curled up on the couch, sipping a hot cup of chai, listening to “Tu Jaane Na” from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009). That song took me back…

I used to listen to it often when we were apart but together.

That was the best, and the hardest time of my life. Our bodies lived on different continents, but our souls stayed close.

The hardest part? You were always far away. Our relationship had its fair share of challenges. We lived off virtual dates, clung to phone calls, chats, messages, Skype… anything that made us feel a little closer. Those became our new normal.

We got creative every day, just to keep the spark alive.

Birthdays? Missed.
Valentine’s Day? Apart.
New Year? Alone.
Festivals? Never together.

Even on our worst days, when all we wanted was to hold hands, cry on each other’s shoulders, or just sit in silence, distance stood between us. We could only watch each other cry, buffering across time zones. Internet issues became villains in our love story.

We argued more than we should have, sometimes just to release built-up frustration. We jumped to conclusions based on the tone of a voice distorted through a screen. I cried so much, my roommates started to hate you. Maybe your friends thought the same about me.

But love—oh, there was so much love.

We cherished every moment we could steal. We longed for each other like crazy. We counted down to our next meetings, sent messages, notes, cards, little surprises. I bet you still have them tucked away somewhere.

And the memories we made? Timeless.

We met in places far from the world’s chaos, made every second count. That sparkle in your eyes, the softness in your voice, the steady reassurance kept me going. It kept us going.

We grew up in that distance. We fought. We faltered. But we figured out what we wanted from life. And from each other.

Looking back, I’m glad we had that phase. It made us realize how much we mattered to one another. Despite the distance, the tears, the arguments—love always won.

I loved you. Deeply. And I know you did too.

But now, I should sign off. My husband will be home soon. I’ll hug him and tell him, “I remembered you today.”

Take care,
And write back.
I’ll wait.

Loads of love,
Your ex-long-distance lover…

OPPPS… your wife now 😊
