Difficult situations ask for difficult measures. The world is facing one such situation today! The world is in middle of a pond, secured by a fence, surrounded by ferocious crocodiles all around. If it steps out, the crocodile might eat it up, but stepping out is also necessary, as the resources in the fence are close to being used up. So to stay alive and protect all those in the fence, the world has to step out and step up, with all precautions it can. Now those inside the fence are not open to the bigger picture, they don’t know wat all the world is facing in micro terms, to keep them as safer as it can. The world is also asking for some sacrifices, from those in the fence to help him, let as many as he can save and survive. One such world in the fence right now is the Hospitality and Tourism industry.

The biggies of every hotel are trying to stay strong and keep it together, whilst they are doing the high wire walk of balancing the needs of those around them.

They are contemplating about how they are supposed to steer the business through this adjustment. Not to forget, while doing so, they are also trying to engage their people, motivate them, and stay connected with them. They are trying their level best to maintain the ethos, value and the hospitality culture in totality by conserving the amity with the people. Not to forget, doing all the things I mentioned, while still trying to work out and see how this novel world will look like to them.

They are continuously trying to achieve their own self-care and mental state while rearranging the sensitive emotional requirements of all those in the trade that they support. The end of any working day, in these times, is showing them as an emotionally drained person, still thinking hard, how under the sun they are going to continue to help people survive through this. Contemplating innovative ways and support their people fix a jigsaw puzzle set, comprising working from home; surviving through financial challenges; home schooling the kids; keeping all safe from the situation; and other everyday challenges; as the pieces of that puzzle, while doing all this themselves for their own family too.

They are sleep deprived, as the constant though of their people losing their jobs, positions becoming redundant, cutting on manning hours, measures that could have been taken to prevent these, are not letting them sleep peacefully. It is taking an emotional toll on them, as they are thinking of various ways to put this in front of their people.

They are going through a very early stage of depression, a feeling that your stomach is sinking, as they know, their own people have made assumptions about them, owing to the position they hold and the decisions they are making. They really do not have anyone to confide in about the actual status of things.

The only thing they need right now, is the belief of their people, the belief, that they are doing all this to save as many as they can if not all. They need someone to go up to them, and tell them, that they are STURDY, they are EMPATHETIC, and they are the BINDING AGENT that the business needs at this point of time. They are the guiding light for many leaders, who are seeking their support through these unparalleled times. And this time particularly, they are looked-for; they are in a very exclusive spot to positively carve the path ahead. They have got this, and they will overcome this. This too shall pass.
