For days now, Karwachauth posts have been flooding social media, each with strong opinions. So, hereโs mine.
Iโm neither very religious nor completely atheist, but I love celebrating Karwachauth. Itโs one of the beautiful ways I choose to express my love for my husband. Contrary to what some say, I donโt fast to show off heavy jewellery or expensive sarees, thatโs not my style.
I know many will ask: Why should only women express love? Why just one day for love?
First, Karwachauth is one of many ways to express love. If you celebrate Valentineโs Day, why not Karwachauth too? And yes, many men do express love on this day: some fast alongside their wives, others show love in their own ways. My husband doesnโt fast because he knows itโs not about tradition or obligation for me. He shows love by doing thoughtful things that make me happy. Is one day enough to express love? No. But there are 365 days in a year, and women express feelings, love and anger, every day, even if not marked on a calendar. Men also have many special days: birthdays, anniversaries, Valentineโs, and we gladly celebrate those too.
So, itโs great to have opinions. It means our brains are awake. But please donโt call women โstupidโ for choosing to fast or dress up on Karwachauth. Love is personal, and every expression deserves respect.
